Chirschmueset

Chirschmueset - a living tradition 

Since the 16th century, cherries have been processed in Wimmis for preservation in mush. This tradition is cultivated and kept alive. The cherries are carefully inspected, mashed in barrels and strained through linen bags with special spreading sticks. This separates the juice, pulp and stones. The juice obtained in this way is thickened by boiling it for hours in a cheese kettle and stirring it constantly to form a spreadable mass called chirschmues. Wimmis Chirschmues is a natural product, so the yield varies from year to year and the supply is accordingly scarce. This speciality is sold in various shops in the village. A DVD, which describes the whole spectacle with sound and image, is available for CHF 16.00 on the municipality. Furthermore, the Chirschmues is also presented in a book.
